That's right! Why wouldn't one have a Halloween themed New Year's Party? Just incase one were, here is a tutorial!
Supplies I used:
-Halloween themed cardstock
(From The Paper Studio, from their Jeepers Creepers Collection a few years ago)
-Halloween cupcake liners
(Martha Stewart, Tj Maxx, a few ago)
-Pinwheel embellishments
-Halloween straw wraps
(Michaels 2015)
-Halloween paper chain kit
(Michaels 2015)
-Orange glitter ribbon
(Michaels, a few years ago)
-Black, laced, sequined material
(I had this in my stash from a bat costume I did a few years ago)
-Pattern/Textured shears
(You can find these at any craft supply store)
-Glue gun...mine has seen a lot of Halloween!
(You can find these at any craft supply as well)
-A pen or pencil
1. Choose your cardstock that will be the base of each pinwheel on your banner. You can use more than one pattern! I just stuck to one for the purpose of this specific craft.
2. Depending on the size of your cupcake liner, you will need to decide on a size larger to fit behind the liner. My liners are the size for "mini" cupcakes...the little cute ones! For the size larger behind it, I decided to use a "coaster" size.
3. You will trace your larger object to create a base for your liner. Yay for Halloween coasters that just hang out everywhere in my house!
4. Now get to cutting your larger shape for the base out, time to design!
5. If you have a multiple option for cupcake liners, decide which suits your cardstock best!
6. Glue your liner to your cardstock base. Any crafts glue will be fine! I find the hot glue works well for me. Even if I burn my fingers! Sometimes you will notice it leaves those small strings of glue, which I pretend are spider webs and then...sorry, back to the DIY!
7. After you have glued the cupcake liner to the cardstock, time to layer!
8. Here, I had these pinwheel embellishments. I had extra in my stash and thought they would be a perfect touch for this project! Glue the embellishment on top of the cupcake liner.
9. After, you will notice your cupcake liner wanting to roll inwards. I just went with that! It
adds dimension and more texture! If you are not into that, just go ahead and glue the sides flat to the cardstock base.
10. Using the strips from a Halloween chain kit,, I selected these bats! I just trimmed at their wings to use as little add on pieces.
11. Glue the bat anywhere you like! I for some reason, always start in the top right corner. Not sure why!
12. Next, I added a straw wrap. The thing I like about these, since they are wraps, there are two side to them! So I just unfolded the wrap, and tore apart and have another side still to use!
13. Lay out your banner "string". For this project, I created 6 pinwheels to be on my banner. You will want to space your pinwheels out to your liking. I found that it was more helpful to glue the pinwheels towards the top half. Not all the way at the top but between top and middle of the pinwheel. My pinwheels were a tad too heavy so they would start to flip over. Any easy fix was just to glue a tish higher than the middle!
14. Just to add a bit more sparkle, take your ribbon and cut into strips. I chose to tie each strip inbetween each pinwheel! You could even tie more than one color of ribbon here!
15. Now you need to decide where you are putting this adorable Halloween banner!!! My is above my computer as I'm working on this post!
-299 days until Halloween!
